Last updated: 23/05/2026
Welcome to Church Cap. These Terms and Conditions explain how you may use our website at churchcap.org and any related pages, resources, downloads, instructions, links, and contact forms.
By using this website, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the website.
1. About Church Cap
Church Cap is an open-source software project designed to help churches provide live captions for services and events.
The software is intended to run locally on compatible hardware, such as an M-series Mac or Windows PC, and may use speech-to-text technology to generate captions from audio input, such as a church sound board or audio interface.
Church Cap is provided to support accessibility, but it is not a guaranteed accessibility, transcription, translation, legal, safeguarding, or emergency communication service.
2. Who operates this website
This website is operated from the United Kingdom.
For questions about these Terms, the website, or the Church Cap project, you can contact us using the contact form on the website or by email at:
info@churchcap.com
3. Website content
The content on this website is provided for general information only. This may include:
-
descriptions of Church Cap features;
-
setup and installation instructions;
-
screenshots and examples;
-
links to GitHub repositories;
-
links to documentation;
-
accessibility information;
-
contact forms;
-
project updates.
We try to keep the information accurate and up to date, but we do not guarantee that all website content will always be complete, current, or error-free.
You should check the GitHub repository and official documentation for the latest version of the software, installation steps, known issues, licence terms, and release notes.
4. Open-source software
Church Cap may be made available through GitHub or other download links.
The software itself is provided under the open-source licence stated in the relevant GitHub repository. That licence governs your rights to use, copy, modify, distribute, and contribute to the software.
If there is any conflict between these website Terms and the open-source licence for the software, the open-source licence will apply to the software.
You are responsible for reviewing the applicable licence before using, modifying, or distributing the software.
5. No subscription and local use
Church Cap is intended to be used locally where possible. The software may process audio and generate captions on hardware controlled by the church or user, depending on the version and configuration being used.
We do not guarantee that every installation, feature, translation, model, or setup will work without internet access, additional dependencies, updates, or configuration.
You are responsible for ensuring that your installation is appropriate for your church, network, hardware, safeguarding policies, privacy requirements, and local laws.
6. Captions, transcription, and translation accuracy
Church Cap may use automated speech recognition and translation technology. Automated captions and translations can be inaccurate, incomplete, delayed, or misleading.
You should not rely on Church Cap as the only method of communication in situations where accuracy is essential, including but not limited to:
-
safeguarding matters;
-
pastoral counselling;
-
legal or disciplinary matters;
-
medical emergencies;
-
health and safety announcements;
-
emergency evacuation instructions;
-
private prayer or sensitive testimony;
-
any situation where inaccurate captions could cause harm.
Churches and operators should make their own judgement about when to pause, blank, disable, or correct captions.
Where appropriate, churches should inform attendees that captions and translations are generated automatically and may contain errors.
7. Accessibility
Church Cap is designed to support accessibility for deaf and hard-of-hearing people, but we do not guarantee that the website, software, captions, translations, or setup will meet every accessibility requirement or legal obligation in every country.
Churches, organisations, and users remain responsible for assessing their own accessibility duties and for choosing appropriate accessibility support for their congregation or event.
Church Cap may be one part of an accessibility approach, but it may not be suitable as a complete replacement for professional captioning, sign language interpretation, hearing loops, assistive listening systems, or other accessibility services.
8. Installation and technical responsibility
Any installation instructions, scripts, commands, downloads, or configuration examples are provided for convenience.
